This has been a very difficult time for me. My family has made some extreme changes (we’ve moved across the country, I’ve started a new job, we just had our first child, and I’m starting business school at a top 5 school in the evenings). During all of this time, I’ve let my fitness and health come second.

This was a poor decision.

There aren’t many ways to slice my actions, other than sub-optimal. I’ve recommitted myself to the process of getting healthy and getting fit, naturally. As you’ve seen on my last few training log posts, I’m finally get backing into a KB routine.

This time around, I’m starting heavy with the 24kg bell and I’m going to build my base on the 24kg bell. My reasons for this mainly rotate around overall strength. The 16kg bell was a killer for me on the cardio (high-rep) material, but it just didn’t work out my strength reps in a way I was happy with. Getting up to speed with the 24kg bell is going to be a LOT of work, but I’m up for it.

Anyhow, this isn’t a post to say woe is me… This is a recommitment to a lifestyle change. To do this well is difficult. It takes commiment to changing your life… I’ve made a lot of other changes, all for the better - my health needs to come along with the changes as well.

Here’s to loosing 100 pounds, soon!

Weight this morning: 315.4 Bad day… I’ve gained almost all of it back It’s time to turn that around!

Notes: Well… August was a wash and we are almost done with September. The key to successful long term weight management and lifestyle change is to stick wit it. I’ve let life get in front of my goals, not a good choice. This evening was my first hit back on the KB. I’m sore. Hitting a 24kg bell after the amount of time I have taken off it tough.

I’m going to get a solid base re-built, and then get back on track. Long journey, but one that I am looking forward to.

Notes: Same as the last workout. This was a quick little knock out of 150 24kg swings. I’m working to just build up the basics again as I took so much time off.

I have absolutely no idea what I weigh right now; I know it is just too much. My wife and I haven’t found our scales yet, but I have my KETTLEBELL! Anyhow, another good workout. I’ll be hitting the swings again tomorrow or Friday.

Next week my plan is to push the volume up a bit and hit a larger number of swings. Hopefully I can find my AOS workbook and get on the scripted plan; if not, I’ll play it by ear.

Workout: 6x 25 Rep Swings with a 2 min jog in between each set

Notes: I’m back too it! It has been way, way, way to long since my last workout. My family has pulled up it’s roots in California, and we have moved to the Midwest. During the process I have a million reasons that I could use for excuses, but the reality is that I didn’t make my health a priority.

Over the past few weeks I’ve spent too much time eating too much fast food, stressing out too much, and not sleeping enough. Today’s workout felt amazing! I climbed out of my basement and was just thrilled with the way my body feels. I’m going to ‘reset’ and start fresh with the swing and jog workout in the AOS workbook.

I need to get my body back in shape to handle the full right of passage; I’ll be there soon. It’s back to eating right and working out. I see nothing other than opportunity in front of me. It’s going to be a great few months!

Notes: Well, I didn’t get a workout in yesterday night after my travels. I’m not horribly surprised; it was an intentional choice. I noted the other day that my body had been revolting due to lack of sleep. Well, waking up at effectively 10pm the day before and not really getting any sleep doesn’t bode well for a sleep deprived body!

As a result, I took it easy last night and slammed down the 24kg bell this afternoon. I got a good nine hours of sleep and feel much better today. I’ll be working hard to stay back on my eight hour minimum as I drop some weight this week with a nice solid workout schedule. Anyhow, I’m glad to be home!

Workout: 3x 5 Rung Ladders- Clean and Press & Maxercist Rows (24kg), 5x 10×10 Snatches approx 45 seconds rest between sets

Notes: Good workout this evening. I don’t have much time to rest before tomorrow morning so I’ll just do a light workout in the am. My goal tomorrow morning is really to just get nice and loose before the long flight across the ocean home!

This week has been a good one. I’m expecting to see some losses by the time I get home, and I’ll continue that next week as my schedule begins to stabilize again!

It’s been tough to keep things up over the past month with extreme amounts of travel, and limited sleep. My key learning is how important sleep is. Once your body goes into a sleep deprived mode, it is really, really hard to keep up with life. Over the past few weeks, I’ve been getting less than a normal eight hours a night, and with the busy travel schedule, and subsequent lack of exercise, that really caught up to me quickly! I’ve been sick with various illnesses, and have had the joy of being tired all day every day.

This week, I’ve finally said enough is enough. I slept as much as possible on the plane ride to Europe, and have had eight hours an evening since. My goal is to get back into the rhythm over the next week and keep is up as I continue to gain muscle and lose weight.

Good luck to you! Eat smart, sleep well and hit those kettlebells!
